Covid-19 Accommodation Recommendations

Accommodations for Employees

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Ohio State University has implemented several precautionary measures. The Office of Human Resources is requiring that telework and/or flexible work be considered and utilized for any employee, where feasible.

The ADA Coordinator’s Office and The Office of Integrated Absence Management and Vocational Services are asking each unit to review all accommodation requests related to COVID-19 with flexibility potentially without the need for medical documentation. If the employee discloses that they have a medical condition which would increase their risk of complications if COVID-19 is contracted, and the unit is able to accommodate an employee’s request (by utilizing the guidelines for telework, flexible work, etc.) during this public health emergency, then please do so. This will help lessen the burden on the employee and our already taxed medical system. If the unit is unable to accommodate an employee’s request, then the employee should be referred to Integrated Absence Management and Vocational Services: hr-integrateddisability@osu.edu.

Because of the nature of medical center work, telework and flexible work arrangements may not apply to many medical center faculty and staff. For pregnant and immunocompromised employees, it is important that they discuss their situation with their healthcare provider. In the coming days, The Wexner Medical Center, in coordination with Employee Health Services, will be providing guidance to managers supervising health care workers who are at higher risk of complications related to COVID-19 due to underlying medical conditions.
