Information about OSU Event ASL/CART Requests

The ADA Coordinator’s Office is happy to help you make your event more inclusive.  If the event is free and open to the public and has an accommodation statement (see sample below) inviting participation from the community when a member of the public makes the request there is a central fund to cover accommodation expenses like CART, ASL, Braille, or Audio Description.  If you do not have an accommodation statement you may be asked to cover the costs. If your request for interpreters or transcribers was made by a registered student, please contact Tiffany Hedges (hedges.10@osu.edu) for further assistance.

If a planned event is expecting an audience above 200 or if the focus is on Disability or Deaf culture, the ADA Coordinator’s Office will provide real time captioning proactively without waiting for a request

If the event is revenue generating it is expected that the budget will cover accommodation expenses. The ADA Coordinator’s Office can assist you with arranging accommodations and responding to requests that fall outside the events budget planning.

Sample Accommodation Statement

“If you have questions about accessibility or wish to request accommodations please contact _______________ at email address _________________.  Typically, a two week notice will allow us to provide seamless access.”

The contact person mentioned in the accommodation statement should know the general details of the event (e.g., start time, length, location, parking for the venue, basics of the program, etc). If they are contacted for an accommodation request for ASL or captioning, they should complete and send following information to the ADA Coordinator’s Office at ada-osu@osu.edu:

Name of Contact for Event:

Name of Consumer:

Event Title:

Date:

Start time and duration:

Location:

Details:

If they are unclear about what accommodation is needed, they should get the name and contact information from the individual making the request and forward that information to the ADA Coordinator’s Office (ada-osu@osu.edu) or call us at 614-292-6207, and we will help to figure it out.
