2006 Call for Papers

April 17-18, 2006

The organizing theme for the sixth annual conference will be "Personal Perspectives & Social Impact: The Stories We Tell." The goal is to encourage presenters and participants to reflect on how personal experiences create and transform social, cultural, and legal realities. A look into what the psychologist Theodore Sarbin referred to as "the storied nature of human conduct."

Consider submitting a presentation: you could present --

  • An oral history of a local disability organization or the disability rights movement in Ohio.
  • Case studies tht explore best practices in business, employment or education.
  • How narrative and testimony are reflected in significant court cases and legislation.
  • Telling your story effectively as an advocate, when filing a complaint or in legal testimony.
  • The use of memoir in teaching self advocacy.

Submission Guidelines

Proposals were due October 1, 2005.  Guidelines for presentation proposals to L. Scott Lissner were:

  • As a Word Attachment to ADA-OSU@osu.edu
  • By Fax at 614-688-3665 (FAX)
  • In the mail at
    University ADA Coordinator’s Office
    1849 Cannon Drive
    Columbus, OH 43210.

Proposals must include:

  • Names and (as appropriate) titles and institutions for each presenter.
  • Contact information (phone, mailing address, and e-mail).
    If there is more than one presenter please indicate one individual as the lead presenter.
  • Title of Presentation.
  • Description:
    In 700 words or less please describe the proposed presentation being sure to not only describe the topic but to address the style of presentation (Panel, Discussion, Performance, etc.), the intended audience, the level audience it is geared for (beginner, intermediate and advanced) and what you hope the audience will gain as a result of participation.
  • Anticipated audio/visual needs.

Please Note:
Conference fees will be waived and lunch each day provided for presenters of accepted proposals but the presenter(s) are responsible for travel and lodging.
